Board of Advisors Biographical Background of Shuki Gleitman Dr. Yehoshua "Shuki" Gleitman, considered to be a leading figure in the Israeli hi-tech community, is a former Chief Scientist and Director General of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the State of Israel (1992-1997). As Chief Scientist, Dr. Gleitman was responsible for overseeing the annual allocation of $500 million in national R&D grants and in that capacity, worked closely with an entire generation of Israeli hi-tech start-ups. Since leaving government, Dr. Gleitman served as CEO of Ampal, a NASDAQ-listed investment company (1997-2000). He then founded two successful venture capital firms, Platinum (in 2000) and KGIF (in 2002) - Korean based VC sponsored by the Korean government. He has far reaching contacts and expertise in the Asia Pacific region including Korea, Taiwan, China, Japan and Singapore. Since 1998 he has served as Singapore's Honorary Consul General to Israel. He is a member of the advisory board of FUBON VC (part of Taiwan's second largest financial institution) and led the India Israel Science and Technology Committee. He has consulted for Motorola and Samsung on their acquisitions in Israel. Dr. Gleitman served as Senior Vice President of Elop - one of Israel's largest hi-tech defense companies (1984-1989). He led the laser-related research and development for the Israeli Ministry of Defense (1981-1984). As part of his hand-on management approach, Dr. Gleitman has ensured that his companies develop market-suitable strategies. His deep technological training combined with the extensive network of contacts he has in the Asia Pacific region has been a tremendous source of support to his portfolio companies. He has developed an expertise in taking companies public on the London, NASDAQ and Tel Aviv exchanges. He serves as Chairman of Widemed and Persay, as well as of the Ofaqim and Katzrin technology incubators. Dr. Gleitman holds B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Physical Chemistry from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. |
